What a year it’s been. When we welcomed 2021, we didn’t expect the twists and turns that these 12 months have brought us – but we’ve finally made it to the end (almost!)! On behalf of our team, I would like to wish you a merry, blessed, and relaxed Christmas Season.

Christmas and New Year Trading Hours
For the first time in several years, we’ll be doing things a bit differently around Christmas time. Our last full day of operation will be Friday 17th December, with our team moving to reduced operational staff from Monday 20th.
Our office will be closed from 12pm on Monday 20th for our end-of-year Christmas function. From Tuesday 21st we’ll continue to offer support, but with a reduced operational team. Our phone helpdesk will operate with reduced hours, opening at 9am each business day, and closing at 5pm AEDT. The best way to contact us will be via email during this period as we will have reduced staff. Customers who have contracted support outside of these times can utilise emergency support at no additional charge as is required.
Over this period we’ll continue to process new orders for services, hardware, and software; but you can expect delays in fulfilment as everyone is taking a much needed break over the Christmas Period. As all telecommunications carriers have an embargo period on order fulfilment over the Christmas and New Year period this will cause no additional impact on order delivery timeframes.
Our team will respond to non-critical issues on NSW Business Days, and critical issues as is needed. As always, our team is on call 24x7x365 for any urgent, critical or SLA related issues and we are always delighted to help our customers.
Our office will resume normal operations on Monday 10th Jan.
If you would like your phone system updated with any Christmas Messages, we’d ask that you provide the details of your Christmas Closing requirements ASAP by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. With our team working hard to ensure these are implemented before the end of next week, recordings take 3 – 5 days to prepare at the moment. The absolute latest recording date for pre-Christmas is Tuesday 21st December.
Our Christmas Gift
Recognising the impact that the COVID pandemic has had on our community, this year we have made a donation to the Black Dog Institute. While there are many worthy causes that could be supported, we have all experienced in new ways the importance of Mental Health, Well-being and Resilience over the last two years.
The Black Dog Institute helps individuals, organisations and communities make positive changes to improve mental health, through action, research and awareness, and we are delighted to be able to support them this year.
We have also made a donation to Compassion Australia. Partnering with local communities in developing countries through their local churches, Compassion provides resources, tools, training and programs to help communities reduce poverty, provide education, and improve living conditions through local resources and partnerships.
As always, we’d love to encourage our customers to consider what impact they can have on their communities, and whether they can support organisations that are making a difference locally, nationally and globally.
Introducing our free Cyber Security Assessment
We’re excited to have launched our Cyber Security Assessment designed for small organisations, as well as our free Cyber Security Resources. These tools are available to all of our customers to help them reduce their vulnerability to Cyber Attacks, and improve their business resilience. We’ll be running a number of webinars between January and May next year providing insight, advice and strategies for a range of organisations (from very small to large) to help them improve their cyber security position.
Coupled with our continued partnership with Huntress, Datto, Dell, Veeam and BitDefender, our cyber security toolset has never been stronger, and our customers have never been more protected.
Welcome to Geek Inside
We’re excited to have welcomed the team from Geek Inside into the Real World family earlier this month. Led by Fraser McGlinn, Geek Inside’s skill and expertise help further solidify our leadership in networking technologies, implementation and delivery.
Introducing 10Gbps Business Internet
Starting in January 2022, we are delighted to be offering business-grade 10Gbps Internet Services to a select number of Sydney CBD locations for a market leading price of $1299 per month. When matched with our global network, this product set helps businesses stay connected 24×7, and ensures that speed and latency are never problems.
New NBN Plans and Speeds
We’re delighted to be launching SuperFast (up to 250Mbps) and UltraFast (up to 1Gbps) NBN services in February 2022. Currently under trial with a limited number of customers, these new plans offer amazing speeds for customers working from home, streaming content or gaming. And with the UltraFast at only $149 per month, the plans have never been more affordable!
In 2021 we performed our single biggest upgrade to our CloudPBX Platform, introducing major new features, resilience and scale across our infrastructure. We’re delighted to continue to build on this platform, AsteraCore and AsteraPBX into 2022, bringing new features, more control and improved resilience end-to-end.
Staff Team Changes
Early in 2021 we were delighted to welcome Matthew Cross to our team as our Chief Commercial Officer, and Dinuka Panagoda into the role of Chief Operating Officer. David Furey has stepped into the role of CTO – Enterprise Infrastructure, and Mark Tees has taken the role of CTO – Networking.
Sadly, Alex Page, Lachlan Abbott and Praj Shakya moved on from Real World to explore other career opportunities, but we have warmly welcomed Mark van der Meulen, Kym Schwarz, Andrew Boundy, Alex Anketell, Gabriella Chalmers and Tom Harkness into our team this year, and seen the return of Brayden Steel.
And if you missed the news, Elizabeth and I are welcoming child number 4 into the world in late January; so our own family keeps growing as well!
